TheCongressThemeaddressessomekeyissuesconcerningtheroleofartcriticismrelatedtothenewtendencies.
Firstly,thevirtualisnottheoppositeofrealitybutratheranincreasingpartofourreality.Presently,communities,socialrelations,everydaylife,thebody,andevenbiologicallifeareintheprocessesofmassvirtualization.Lifeitselfhasbeensupposedasanalgorithm,AIasabrainwithoutbody,whilespace-time’srelationshipisvirtualizedinVRtechnology.Avirtualenterpriseneednolongerconveneitsemployeesonsite,butrathercandelegateworktobedoneremotely,thusre-articulatingthetime-spacerelationshipofitsworkers.
Secondly,ifwemakeanobservationofalongerduration,thereseemstobeanunquestionableexpansionofdemocracywhichcanbeconfirmedbythedemocratictransitionsbeginninginthemid-1970s,whichspanfromLatinAmericatoTaiwanandSouthKorea,throughtheendofthecoldwar,andtofollowingtransitionsinEasternEurope,theColorRevolutionandtheUmbrellaMovementinHong-Konginthefallof2014.Neverthelessinmorerecentyears,thephenomenonoftheretreatofdemocracycanalsobeobservedintheuprisingofthepopulismworldwide.
